AWESOME DEAL!

Ok some of yall know that I was supper excited a few days ago when I happened across a BIG DEAL shopping spree at Michaels. I NEVER get good deals, and since being here in Canada I’ve been a little bummed at how EVERYTHING is a few dollars more than it is in the US. Money equivalent ya know. So when I saw what kind of a great deal I was getting at Michaels, I jumped on it.

What happened was that I went to Michaels to get some stuff for a project, and then ended taking a look in the clearance Halloween bens. Halloween is NOT as big of a deal here as it is in US. I kind of had a lame Halloween so the thought of finding something that could be useful for next year, really made me happy. I started to dig and then the manager came by and talks loud enough for me to hear saying to the casher girls to “give the lady who’s looking through the Halloween clearance items, give her ANOTHER 50% off” (!!) you don’t have to tell me twice! that really got a gity-up in my step and I went back thru all that Halloween stuff 2 more times. And I feel like I got SUCH a GREAT deal!! I want yall to take a look at these next 2 pictures, and know that I got ALL of that stuff for ONLY $72.17!

I have NEVER walked out of Michaels with 4 BIG bags of stuff and have it come out to be so low to what I know it would normally cost. I was very curious on how much money I actually saved (I know Byron’s going start giving me a talk about how if I didn’t buy anything, I would have saved like – $10,000 over the next 2 years or something like that – but shut up! This is my party, don’t rain on it!) so I sat down with my receipt to tally it all up and while I only know what most of the items were being charged when they were already “clearance” priced already, and working off what I knew some of the items cost at full regular price, I know that I saved $185.33!! so if I was able to know what everyone thing was originally priced, I’m guessing I saved b/w $200-$300! I just feel really good about it and I’m looking forward to next Halloween!

Day of Remembrance

Here in Canada today they are all remembering all those who have served and are serving for their country, but mainly to honor those who have died in service of their country during WW1 (it’s like Veterans Day for us). They sent out about a week ago letters to everyone about it, along with this red poppy to wear. You wear the poppy for a week and then starting tmw, you take it off. I personally don’t see why they just don’t wear it all year around, it’s for a good reason and it’s pretty to wear. It certainly spruced up my solid black winter coat. I wish the US was do something like this – it’s a smart idea to get the whole country involved. It’s really fun to clip thru all the news channels and see ALL of the news casters wearing the same poppy! And EVERYTIME I that I saw someone wearing it, I would act like a little school girl and grab dericks arm “LOOK! He’s wearing one too!” “LOOK! She’s got one!” “LOOK!” “LOOK!”… poor derick, he took the remote away from me after that.

They do this every year on the 11 month, on the 11th day, and at the 11th hr they have a 2 minutes of silence for remembering those who have served and died. I was thinking they’ll probably have a really big deal next year cause then it will be 11-11-11! But anywho - they have lots of news castings showing dedications and speeches being given, it was funny that at 11 even the kids station (which is what we were watching at the time) came on and said “where going to have our 2 minutes of silence now” and then the screen went blank and all you could see was a Canadian flag waving. I watched the service for a while. They played some bag pips and some of the talks were in French. It was touching. Like I said, I’ve been wearing the poppy, I know I’m not from here (well – technically, I am a temporary citizen) but besides that, I liked wearing it cause it was for the men and woman of Canada who’ve served and fought, and I wanted to show my respect.

My favorite thing about the day is the reason why they wear poppies. It’s because of a poem written in remembrance of those who died during WW1 and in the “Flanders” field where they were buried red poppy flowers grew. It’s very symbolic when you look out and see a crowd of LIVING people all wearing red poppies – not to sound shallow, but it’s “deep” ya know? You’ll also see red poppies on some of their coins too.

Anyhow, this is the poem, I wanted to share it with yall it’s written by John McCrae
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our places and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe,
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Princess video – so funny!

I dedicate this post to my SISTERS – the only ones I think would get the humor in this. And sisters – because of the song’s lyrics, I would feel better if no one outside the “adult age” should look at this. I know you all must be sweating in your shoes saying “what? What?”. But look – this is something that just made me crake up, and I just want to know if this makes you laugh. It’s a youtube music video of the Disney princesses (the girls we all grew up with), and It’s a music clip to what song?... “(witch)” by Meredith Brooks. It’s actually not called “witch” I’m trying to make this PG reading. But yeah – it’s that song you’ve probably heard of it on the radio it bleeps in “witch” over the real word they use. And it’s because of that word, I don’t want my nephews or nieces to see this. But sisters – you’ve got to see this. It is SO funny! Just pull out the head set for this one k? really, just check it out. It’s not as bad as I’m trying to say. It’s just that one word. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Mb8bNQe3j8&feature=related
