This is Amanda (at the front of the line) about to walk into the cabin with the other kids and the sister missionary who was leading us on our guide.

They worked very hard to get all authentic time period items to properly portray the home in which Joseph Smith SR & his wife Lucy Mack lived with their 8 children for a total of 8 years!

This is the root-cellar where they would keep their “fridge” items and food storage.

On the bottom floor to the right is the room where Lucy and Smith Sr. lived

After their family continued to grow after moving here they added another room that joined their own bedroom. It served as a baby’s room for a long time and then another room for the kids when they were older.

To the right of the fireplace are stairs that lead upstairs to where most of all the kids lived.

This is the upstairs, the boys lived in the front room by the chimney

This girls lived in the back room (you can see it beyond the door and behind the rope in the other picture of the whole room)

This is the VERY room (or “airspace” since it’s a duplicated house) where the resurrected Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith. It was SO AMAZING standing here. The tour guide said that Gordon B. Hinckley said “in this very airspace was where it happened and that this spot is second to sacredness to the garden of Gethsemane.” Or something to that effect, I’m not sure where that quote can be found but that’s what our tourist told us. I’m still trying to find the quote it print. But forget the authenticity of the footnotes for a second and just think about how amazing it is, that it happened! Whether or not if there’s a cool quote to support the history or it all or its importantance, just think about that fact that it happened and what that means. THAT part is not a miss-quote, that is true and recorded in the scriptures. You can read about it and pray about and gain a testimony for yourself of its truth and importance! It’s amazing! It really did happen. Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith. It’s amazing and the spirit was so strong as we stood there in silence for a while in that little room! HOW COOL!

before we came here, I went online to the Gospel Art Kits and printed off the information they place on the back of the artwork. It’s great, it’s like scripture cliff notes. Anyhow, I thought it would be wonderful if my family and I could read what information we could about the places we were visiting so it was all fresh in our minds.
If you would like to read the story about Moroni visiting Joseph Smith Jr, you can find it here: http://lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?hideNav=1&locale=0&sourceId=667ef48fa2d20110VgnVCM100000176f620a____&vgnextoid=198bf4b13819d110VgnVCM1000003a94610aRCRD
